Define the logo project before pricing it
Ask whether the client needs a single logo, a logo family, a wordmark, an icon, alternate lockups, or a broader visual identity. Confirm the audience, positioning, competitors, decision-makers, deadline, and where the work will be used.
A logo-only project is not automatically a brand strategy, naming, packaging, social-media system, website, or complete brand guideline. List those as separate deliverables or add-ons.
Estimate every phase, not only drawing time
Break the work into realistic phases:
- Brief, discovery call, research, and visual references
- Concept exploration and internal refinement
- Presentation of the agreed number of directions
- Consolidated feedback and revision rounds
- Colour, typography, spacing, and small-size testing
- Final vector, raster, colour, and monochrome exports
- File organisation, handoff, and usage notes
- Project management, email, invoicing, and contingency
Do not estimate only the hours spent inside design software. Research, presentation, feedback, production, and delivery are billable project work.
Calculate a sustainable project quote
Use an internal hourly floor to protect the minimum, then add overhead, uncertainty, profit, and payment fees. Present the result to the client as a clear fixed project price.
Hourly floor: USD 45 Estimated work: 24 hours Overhead: 10% Revision / decision risk: 15% Target profit: 25% Payment fee: 3.5% Suggested project quote: approximately USD 1,865
This is a calculation example, not a universal logo-design rate. Replace the assumptions with your own costs, speed, experience, demand, client risk, usage, and location.
Control concepts, feedback, and revisions
State how many initial directions you will present, how many revision rounds are included, who consolidates feedback, and what counts as a new direction. More concepts create more research, production, presentation, and decision work.
A revision refines an approved direction. Returning to a rejected concept, changing the brief, adding stakeholders, or requesting a new direction should trigger a revised fee and timeline before further work begins.
Offer three client-facing options
Scope options let the client choose value without asking you to discount the same deliverable.
Essential - approximately USD 1,679 One presented direction Two consolidated revision rounds Core vector and raster files Recommended - approximately USD 1,865 Two presented directions Three consolidated revision rounds Primary and alternate lockups Colour, monochrome, and export package One-page usage sheet Premium - approximately USD 2,331 Everything in Recommended Additional direction Social profile assets Expanded mini guideline Priority turnaround
Make every option precise. If the client needs strategy, naming, stationery, packaging, templates, or a full identity system, estimate that additional workload instead of quietly absorbing it.
Write clear ownership and delivery terms
List the exact final formats, colour versions, lockups, usage notes, and delivery method. State when the client receives the final files and agreed rights—normally after final payment.
Clarify that trademark searches, legal clearance, font licences, stock licences, printing, and third-party production are excluded unless specifically included. Add the booking deposit, payment milestones, feedback deadlines, quote expiry, cancellation terms, and portfolio-use agreement.
Common questions
Is there a standard price for a freelance logo?
No. A fair quote depends on discovery, research, concepts, revisions, file production, usage, experience, deadline, client risk, and the wider identity scope. Calculate a defined project instead of copying one market number.
How many logo concepts should a quote include?
Include only the number you can research, refine, and present properly. State the exact number in the quote. More concepts require more time and should increase the price.
Should source files be included?
List the exact files the client will receive, such as AI, EPS, SVG, PDF, PNG, and JPG. State when they are delivered and whether final payment is required before release.
Should trademark checking be included?
Do not imply legal clearance unless you are qualified and it is explicitly included. State that trademark searches and legal advice are excluded or handled by an appropriate specialist.
